Publishers Devolver Digital and Croteam Publishing, along with developers Gamepires and Croteam, announced SCUM’s Steam Early Access page back in January of this year. The open world survival game is now set to hit PC via Steam Early Access during the first quarter of 2018.
Just for the record, SCUM is said to be more like DayZ in terms of surviving in an open world and not like PUBG, which is a battle royal game. SCUM is more about fighting against animals, weather, elements, and other players on an island to survive.
“SCUM evolves the multiplayer open world survival game with unprecedented levels of character customization, control, and progression where knowledge and skills are the ultimate weapons for long-term survival.”
Moreover, SCUM is billed as an adult game where gore, dismemberment, nudity, and extreme violence is something that is core to its survival DNA.
Now that you have a basic idea what SCUM aims to offer come Q1 2018, the devs recently posted up progress screens showing in-game foliage, in which two screenshots can be seen right here:
Aside from graphics, I bet you are thinking about gameplay mechanics, right? You can check out a video discussing stealth, camouflage, awareness, graphical settings, foliage, third-person vs. first-person and more. The video comes in by TheGamepires.
I’m not sure if SCUM will be popular among gamers, but if the current trend continues of it being mistaken as a battle royal game it does raise concern whether it will survive when it launches early next year.
If it can separate itself from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and show off more unique stuff that’s not on the games market currently, SCUM might have a chance at building up a stable/healthy player base.
If you want to keep up with SCUM, the devs behind the game promised to update folks on development every week or so. This means that you can follow the latest news about SCUM by hitting up its Facebook, Twitter or official site.
