Square Enix revived the eight year old release of Star Ocean: The Last Hope from the Xbox 360 and PS3, and have brought it back for the glorious PC master race in full, ultra HD with native 3840 x 2160 resolution support.

The game is one of those long lost JRPG outings from the yesteryears of last gen, which featured a ragtag crew of heroes on a journey to save the galaxy from a mysterious and dangerous force.

Like the previous Star Ocean games, it’s still centered chiefly around the real-time action-oriented combat system that allows players to engage in fights based on using real tactics and techniques during the heat of active battle.

PC gamers will have all the standard features that made it into the game back when it came out almost a decade ago, but with the added support of stable frame-rates (something you did not get in PS3 or Xbox 360 games) and with the UHD resolution for gamers who like seeing their titles in crisp, sharp displays rendered at the highest form of visual clarity afforded by today’s technology.

Gamers enjoy the fact that the title has made its way to Steam, but they’re not terribly impressed with Square’s decision to insult their intelligence by including Denuvo DRM into the fold, nor are they impressed with the fact that there’s no frame-stability if you’re running the game uncapped. In fact, there’s no frame-limiter or v-synch, according to some reports. Sometimes uncapped frame-rates with inconsistent buffering can result in an experience almost as bad as peasantry consoles playing at sub-30fps.

So if you’re willing to tough it out or wait for some noteworthy modders to dive in and make the game more PCMR-friendly, you can do so. Meanwhile, for those of you who don’t care about quality, you can pick up a digital copy from the Steam store for $20.
