Valkyria Chronicles 4 Coming To Nintendo Switch, PS4, XB1 In 2018

The developers behind Valkyria Chronicles announced that a new game is in the works. They’ve been working on creating a new visually expressive world that combines the look and “warmth” of a watercolor painting but with today’s newest rendering technology.

A five minute pitch video was published recently by Sega, where they showcase some of the concepts for the game and talk very briefly about how the tactical combat from the previous games will be making a return.

Halfway through the video they give gamers a look at what they mean about having hand-drawn art rendered in 3D, as we get a look at some of the hero characters fighting on the battlefield within a picturesque setting.

As is usual with most of the Valkyria Chronicles games, players will take on the roles of the rebellious underdogs fighting against the Imperial forces that are intent on controlling Europa.

Visually the game looks pretty good, but it’s probably one of the few games that probably would benefit from being in 4K, which is definitely possible on PC… if it were coming to PC.

For now, Sega is focused on working with the team to produce the title for the Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. I’m a little shocked that the Switch made the cut, but Sega – unlike Activision and Electronic Arts – sees the monetary writing on the wall and they want in on all that sweet, sweet money that Nintendo is churning out with the ever-growing install base of the Switch.

Given how close the game is to releasing in 2018, expect some gameplay footage to follow and expect a lot of comparison videos as well. I’m also curious how well this game will be scaled for the Switch and if Sega will put more focus on the originality of the gameplay to compensate for the graphics?

Anyway, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is due out in 2018 for the aforementioned game consoles.
