Bennett Foddy’s completely bizarre puzzle-platformer, Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy, has become a sales phenomenon. The $7.99 offbeat indie title has managed to move more than 280,000 copies within the span of just two weeks since its release on December 6th, 2017, according to Steam Spy.
The game is moving vast amounts of copies each day, with more than 21,000 people having bought the game between December 16th and December 17th, showing a massive 106% increase in day-to-day sales trends compared to its initial launch. What’s crazy is that the momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing down right now, and a lot of gamers seem thrilled about sharing and spreading the word of mouth about the game. It probably helped that YouTuber PewDiePie did a rather entertaining series of videos about Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy that helped spread a lot of awareness about the game.
Each of the videos managed to get more than 3.5 million views, with the first video getting 4.6 million views. So there was a heck of a lot of exposure for Bennett Foddy’s title, easily making him one rich S.O.B.
The game itself is about a guy in a pot who must use a sledgehammer to physically scale impossibly challenging scenarios.
The physics-based traversal and obstacles that players must overcome are both frustrating and satisfying to complete all at the same time, which has led to the game’s inevitable very positive rating. Many people seem to recognize that this is kind of a throwback game to the old-school era where sheer determination and unbridled focus on completion were requirements for beating a game instead of a credit card and a lottery-style gamble on a box that may or may not have the necessary upgrades you need to get stronger.
Nevertheless, if you’re willing to put yourself through the torture of playing through the game that’s supposed to be an home to Jazzuo’s Sexy Hiking, you can check out Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy over on the Steam store page right now for $7.99.
