Thai development studio Vermillion Digital is working on a new game called M.A.S.S. Builder, themed around citizens of the world working together to build giant mechs to fight off an alien invasion.
The M.A.S.S. Units, also known as the Mechanical Assistant Skeleton Suits, allow the pilot to command a powerful, towering mech that can utilize both melee and projectile-based weaponry.
The story centers around aliens from a void dimension coming to Earth and attempting to siphon the resources from the planet. Humans go into underground bunkers in order to survive, but decide to fight back by building mechanized combat units known as M.A.S.S. You can check out the development video below to get an idea of what the suits will look like in the game.
Lead game designer Nontawat Thanakiatkrai explains in the pitch video how gamers can customize just about every aspect of their mech, from their head down to their toes.
You can alter their armor using a modular assembly system, adding on different types of plates, protection, parts, and pieces to not only alter the look of your mech but its performance as well.
Once you get done building your mech and giving it a unique look, there’s also a built-in livery editor as well.
One of the really cool parts about the editing tools is that you can also alter the kind of weapons you use. You can choose from ranged weapons to melee weapons, customizing the barrels, stock, ammo types, and design. You can even choose the color of your weapons, so they can either match your mech or look a bit more grounded.
The melee weapon creation is especially nice because depending on the design will determine their stance and how they use it on the battlefield. You can choose between short swords, long swords, clubs, blunt weapons, and even spears.
Now for gamers out there who would want to build some massively huge, overpowered gun and matching sword, you have to consider that the bigger your weapon and the more armor you pack onto your mech, the heavier it becomes and the slower it will move. So you’ll have to balance between weight and maneuverability.
