The developers, Red Barrels, talks about what the future of the Outlast franchise will be like and where they would like to take the series. Of course, they didn’t say much about the new game, other than that the third title will likely wrap up the story for the trilogy and answer some much needed questions, especially after the end of Outlast 2.
As a way to assuage the impatience of gamers, they suggest checking out The Murkoff Account, which is a novel that works as an epilogue to the second game.
As mentioned in the Facebook post….
“Currently we’re working on something a lot of you have been asking for… It won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe. We can’t say more right now, we first need to make sure we can make it work. Like I mentioned, we strive to be risk-takers and this one is a pretty big challenge. If all goes well, we’ll soon be able to reveal more.
“In the meantime, the Outlast franchise will be released on the Nintendo Switch during the first quarter of 2018.”
If you’ve been itching to play horror-themed games on your Nintendo Switch while you commute or while you’re just sitting at a park bench watching your state representative grope women or harass their female staff.
Anyway, it’s nice to know that more mature games are arriving on the Nintendo Switch, and fulfilling just about every genre imaginable.
The Outlast games are definitely old by the time they launch on the Switch, but if you’ve been starved for content on the Switch you can look to grab the two games in early 2018. Given that they mention that the franchise is coming to the Switch, I’m assuming that this will include the DLC for both games? I expect more details in an official press release soon.
