Rolling Stone Co-Founder Jann Wenner Accused Of Gay Sexual Assault

Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone Magazine, was recently accused of having sexually assaulted former staffer Jonathan Wells. In an illuminating piece by Buzzfeed News, Wells explained that he partied and did cocaine with Wenner, and always dreamed of getting a job working at Rolling Stone Magazine. Well, in 1983, a night of wild behavior and unsolicited sex led to Wells eventually landing his dream job, but at the cost of his heterosexuality.

Wells told Buzzfeed that he wasn’t gay, and was only ever attracted to women. However, that night in February of 1983 changed everything for the aspiring writer.

After meeting and schmoozing and drinking and doing cocaine with Jann Wenner, the two men found themselves in Wenner’s study where they were supposed to be talking about Wells potentially landing a job at the illustrious magazine. However, the Rolling Stone co-founder invited a prostitute over where the two of them had relations with the sex worker.

However, it was after the prostitute left that things took a very different turn… undressed and drugged up, Wenner began intimately kissing on Wells’ body. Wells recounted to Buzzfeed that despite not being gay, he found himself with Wenner’s genitalia in his mouth. Shortly thereafter, Wenner was giving Wells oral sex. In explicit detail, Wells told Buzzfeed…

“I was lying back and he put himself on top of me. He was kissing me, but you know, normal stuff, kissing my chest. I remember him putting his penis in my mouth. I remember him sucking me, going down on me. I remember his hair on my stomach.”

Before things went even further, a startled and bewildered Wells got dressed and left the apartment.

He attempted to convince himself that he wasn’t gay and that he was still attracted to women. However, his desire for the job at the Rolling Stone assassinated his sexual morals, and his hetero sensibilities, and Wells indulged in several more intimate meetings with Wenner.

Wells eventually landed a cushy job at the Rolling Stone Magazine, and later got married. Wenner wanted to continue their same-sex exploits, but Wells declined… multiple times.

Two years after working for the publication he was then fired.

Wells told Buzzfeed that at the time he didn’t piece it together, but he sees now that perhaps his turning down the sexual advances of Wenner was what could have led to the firing.

Wells believes that the initial sexual encounter he had with Wenner was unwarranted, and that he was terrified.

Wenner explained that these are nothing more than allegations that have “saddened” him, telling Buzzfeed…

“I am completely surprised by these allegations, as we have remained friends for almost 35 years since then. I sincerely believed our relationship was totally mutual and consensual — absolutely, and without question. I am saddened to hear this is his memory of that evening, because it is different than mine.”

It’s a story chock full of irony: Gay sexual assault; sex for favors; vindictive firings; and an employee feeling as if he endured what could be described as rape culture to succeed.

These are all the underpinnings and telltales of the stories that Rolling Stone peddled a few years ago under a banner of “starting a conversation” about “rape culture”. It wasn’t about the facts, which is why Rolling Stone ended up getting sued for fabricating a rape hoax about rapes on college campuses. And yet, there are now allegations of that same kind of culture having persisted within the very walls of the publication itself.

It doesn’t sound like much will come out of this case given that Wenner is neither apologetic nor disposed to step down. However, other powerful figures in the media weren’t so lucky, as people like Harvey Weinstein were outed for having acted out many sordid fantasies with women, both willing and unwilling. Kevin Spacey was also effectively fired and outcast from Hollywood after being accused of sexually assaulting some fresh young men many years ago.
