Thrustmaster wanted to pay homage to the yesteryears of racing by creating a vintage racing wheel for only the most hardcore, diehard, hard-boiled, hard-edged racing fans. Are you hard enough for the wood-crafted, vintage Ferrari 250 GTO racing wheel? If the answer is ‘yes’, then I feel sorry for your desk.
The new racing wheel is based on the old-school 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. The wheel was part of a historic piece of road-racing machinery that helped win three consecutive GT world championships between 1962 and 1964.
The design is pure aesthetics. If you’re into form over function, then you won’t be left wanting with Thrustmaster’s latest offering. In fact, it boasts a spit-shined metal faceplate over the Ferrari logo, along with an authentic chrome finish.
As you can see from the image, there’s a genuine wood-grain covering with a black ring running through the center of the wheel. It’s designed to give gamers a legitimate feeling of sitting in the cockpit of a marvelously motorized rocket on wheels from the 1960s.
The Ferrari 250 GTO wheel also comes in a specially designed collector’s gift box. Unfortunately, Thrustmaster will have only a limited number of supply put into production, so if you want one you’ll have to start saving up now so you can get it day and date when it arrives on December 20th, 2017 later in the month.
How much will this prestigious piece of racing history cost you? A very pretty penny; try £349.99 on for size.
Now keep in mind that this is just the wheel, not the pedals, or rudders, or gear-shift add-ons. On the upside the Ferrari 250 GTO Racing Wheel is compatible with the PC Thrustmaster T-series, and the TH8A add-on shifter. So if you already have the pedal and gear-shift setup, you’re practically all set.
However, you will need to download some firmware updates from over on the Thrustmaster website before you put that bad boy into action.
