Attempting to adhere to the philosophy of Social Justice is a cruel mistress with a knife ready at the back and a sneer primed to turn into a screech at a moment’s notice. David Cage is learning this the hard way after constantly trying to appease the SJW crowd with his works. He’s now on the receiving end of defamatory pieces put out by French media, attacking Quantic Dream and the heads of the studio of cultivating a racist, sexist environment.
French outlet Le Monde stated that employees claimed that Quantic Dream is a less-than-ideal place to work for after five employees in the spring of 2017 filed reports against the studio for a degrading work environment.
The article goes on to state that the employees claimed that Cage isn’t necessarily “subtle” about making inappropriate jokes, being despotic in his managerial duties, and making inconsiderate remarks in front of his wife.
The article also claims that fellow studio manager, Guillaume de Fondaumière, is also “inappropriate” when it comes to dealing with females in the work place, and the former employees expressed that he degraded them constantly at work and at professional parties.
According to Eurogamer both David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière deny the accusations made against them and against the work culture of Quantic Dream. In their translation of the rebuttal, Cage stated that the allegations were…
“[…] ridiculous, absurd and grotesque” […]
“You want to talk about homophobia? I work with Ellen Page, who fights for LGBT rights. You want to talk about racism? I work with Jesse Williams, who fights for civil rights in the USA… Judge me by my work.”
Co-founder Guillaume de Fondaumière also seconded Cage’s remarks and further denied any wrongdoing at the company’s parties, saying…
“I will be extremely clear: it’s absolutely false. None of any of this happened at any evening event.”
A few other French outlets also reiterated the same claims.
It’s interesting because it appears Quantic Dreams is gathering up quite the reputation heading into their upcoming release of Detroit: Become Human, which also received attacks by various organizations for normalizing and glamorizing physical abuse against children.
Calls for censorship were made as well.
Some gamers see this as the just rewards for pushing for the industry to adopt SJW politics, others have defended the studio, while a few more believe that actions need to be taken against Quantic Dream if the allegations turn out to be true. Either which way, there doesn’t appear to be any kind of support or positive promotion heading into the release of Detroit: Become Human.
