Nintendo’s latest device known as the Switch is flaunting its ability to move mad units quickly, which as of 2017 the Switch sold 14.86 million units. This was helped out by its line up of exclusive games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, the latter of which moved 9.07 million units of 2017.

The Big ‘N’ released the Switch for the world to consume on March 3rd, 2017. Yes, this means that the nifty device will turn one year old very soon in the next two months, but has already managed to outsell the lifetime sales of the Wii U within nine months’ time.

After the Switch worldwide release as of last year, the device has accrued a number of sold units of 14.86 million as of December 31st, 2017. The Wii U only managed to globally move 13.56 units for its lifetime sales. This information was announced by Nintendo via nintendo.co.jp/ir.

The listed numbers featured above could not be achieved without a line up of exclusive titles. The games listed in the bulleted list below pulled in said numbers only on one device, which can only be found on the Switch:

  • Super Mario Odyssey – 9.07 million units
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.33 million units
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 6.70 million units
  • Splatoon 2 – 4.91 million units

Given that Super Mario Odyssey was able to move 9.07 million units and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was able to sell 6.70 million units within2017 on one device, shows that claims by developers who doubt single-player games should reconsider their stance on said games.
