Devolver Digital and Deconstructeam recently reminded gamers that The Red Strings Club is prepping for release at some point later this month. The game centers around a hipster cafe set within a cyberpunk world, where an overarching plot involves impersonating people in order to expose a corporate conspiracy.
The latest trailer for the game is a few months old, but gives you an idea of what to expect from the off-center adventure title, which doesn’t seem to shy away from nudity and adult themes. You can check out the trailer below.
The trailer doesn’t really do much to explain what’s going on or how the gameplay unfolds, but it’s like one part The Gods Will Be Watching and two parts Val-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action.
There are a number of different characters, each with their own goals, but two of whom have a very specific mission: to take down Supercontinent Ltd.
The corporation is basically attempting to implement a psyche welfare system that would essentially turn society into a neural-Marxist state.
A bartender and hacker attempt to work together to overthrow this plot while recruiting a few other unlikely individuals to help along the way.
Gameplay will consist of traditional point-and-click maneuverability, with the added bonus of mixing drinks for patrons at the bar in a mini-game. There’s also a couple of other unique mini-games mixed in between for the different characters you play that will unfold the story.
They don’t mention if there will be multiple endings or not, but it would be interesting if it did.
Some gamers are leery because they feel the trailer comes across as very Tumlbr-esque.
It’s not hard to see where reservations are rearing up within the back of gamers’ minds. There has been way too much politicization in gaming lately with most games being little more than propaganda vehicles for indoctrination.
Hopefully Deconstructeam avoids the kind of overt politicization that has ruined many other recent AAA games that have come out, and focus on the gameplay and narratives to bring The Red Strings Club to life.
The official release date hasn’t been revealed yet, but you can keep an eye on the Steam store page to find out more.
