SNK Heroines Was Part Of A Year Long April Fools Joke From SNK
SNK Heroines

Last year on April 1st, 2017 SNK Corporation released a fake announcement for a game called Nariyuki Quest, featuring some of the heroines from SNK’s games and Kukri from King of Fighters XIV. Well, it turns out that the April Fool’s joke may have actually been a clandestine way for SNK to preemptively announce the anti-SJW fighting game, SNK Heroines.

Resident /r/Kappa user, FussoMoro, has an extremely impressive and thorough thread detailing the timeline of events leading up to the announcement of the upcoming Nintendo Switch and PS4 fighting game, which is due for release this summer.

In the thread, he explains how last year, when the fake game Nariyuki Quest was announced, it was followed up with a mock web-comic featuring SNK’s characters. The gist of the web comic was that Kukri was capturing the waifus of the SNK universe, and they were being imprisoned by Kukri. He was also going by the pseudonym Sandel Dark.

Kukri was attempting to capture the female fighters and pit them against each other in order to have one of them become his wife. According to the web comic, FussoMoro listed each of the females heroines who were captured by Kukri (or in Leona’s case, there to infiltrate his lair), and the ones who have so far been confirmed to appear in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

There are 13 females listed, and the five confirmed to be in the game are as follows:

  • Mai
  • Athena
  • Yuri
  • Kula
  • Leona

The ones who appear in the web comic or were captured by Kukri includes:

  • Love Heart
  • Mai
  • Mui Mui
  • Mian
  • Athena
  • Zarina
  • Nakoruru
  • Yuri
  • King
  • Luong
  • Leona

There are a few others who appear in the web comic but weren’t confirmed to be captured and it’s unclear if they’ll make an appearance in SNK Heroines or if the list of 13 characters will be the full roster.

The real kicker is that SNK started the web comic shortly after announcing the joke game. They ended the web comic with the announcement of SNK Heroines. No joke. This is how Chapter 32 ends, which was posted up on the official SNK Corporation Twitter account on January 12th, 2018 following the announcement of the upcoming Nintendo Switch and PS4 title.

Yep, it all leads toward a big billboard with the announcement of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

Essentially, this has led the FGC to presume that the web comic and the game’s story may be similar, with Kukri having captured SNK’s beautiful waifus in an attempt to get them to battle it out to become his bride. It’s possible that Leona is there to infiltrate his compound and put an end to his villainous ways.

Of course this is all speculation right now and we won’t know for sure until SNK and NIS America roll out more details for the game. As one of the panels in Chapter 17 points out, where Athena is asking Kukri about the plot of the game, she asks if it’s about falling in love with the heroines of SNK, which indicates that the game might likely have a comical plot to match its lighthearted gameplay.

If that truly is the plot then this game will be a silly fighting game themed around playing dress up and saving SNK’s gorgeous waifus from a waifu collector. I don’t think the game could get any more epic if that turns out to be true.

(Thanks for the news tip Fusso)
