Sumo Digital Announces Acquisition Of CCP Games’ Newcastle Studio

Sumo Digital has disclosed the act of acquiring CCP Games’ Newcastle studio as of January 2nd, 2018. Standing as the company’s fourth studio, it is said that 34 staff members have transferred from CCP Games to Sumo Digital, with executive producer Owen O’Brien stepping in as the new studio director.

Catching wind from publication site gamesindustry.biz we learn that Sumo Digital has posted up on sumo-digital.com the act of acquiring CCP Games’ Newcastle studio.

If you have no clue as to what Sumo Digital and CCP Games have done, the former has developed titles such as some OutRun games, TOCA Racer Driver titles, Sonic & All-Stars Racing (+ Transformed), with upcoming titles like Crackdown 3 and Dead Island 2 under its belt.

The latter company (CCP Games) is known for titles like Dust 514 and Eve Online. With Sumo Digital possessing CCP Games’ Newcastle studio, Community Coordinator James Megretton wrote the following notice:

“2nd January 2018. Sheffield, UK. Sumo Digital, part of the Sumo Group plc (AIM: SUMO) a leading independent game developer, today announced that it has taken on CCP Games’ Newcastle studio.”

The letter continued and disclosed how many staff members will transfer over to Sumo Digital, and that the other two studios under Sumo’s control in the U.K., alone includes one in Sheffield and Nottingham.

Megretton also touched on what Managing Director of Sumo Digital, Paul Porter, had to say about the expanse:

“As we continue to expand this was a great opportunity to bring an experienced, talented and tight-knit team on board.”

The final part to the letter includes some words of Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games, who noted:

“”Sumo Digital is a great home for the team in Newcastle. As we say goodbye to our former colleagues we know that they will do great things there, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.””

There’s no telling what Sumo Digital will cook up now that it has another studio under its portfolio, but we do know that it is currently working on Crackdown 3 and Dead Island 2.
