Sega and Creative Assembly released a trailer for the upcoming Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. The trailer highlights King Alfer the Great, one of the British Isle’s valiant leaders who staved off the invasion of the Viking raiders during the raids of 878 AD.
Alfred represents the leader of one of several playable factions in Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, which focuses heavily on the bloody combat that canvassed man’s struggle during the dark ages.
The near two minute trailer spotlights Alfred and his mission to unite the British isles and defeat all who would attempt to usurp the throne. You can check it out below.
The in-engine trailer is pretty slick for Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. It’s a shame that the blood and gore mode wasn’t enabled so we could properly see how the combat should have unfolded. However, given Sega and Creative Assembly’s record, expect to see the blood and gore add-on arrive as a paid bit of DLC, which is typical of the Total War franchise these days.
Graphically the game looks par the course for a Total War title. The highlight is that the in-engine assets are shared across cinematics and actual in-game play, not unlike what Creative Assembly does for the Total War: Warhammer games.
And keeping in Total War tradition, there will still be basic units, specialty units, and hero units. You’ll also be able to achieve victory through a number of different means, including aggressive takeovers or via political influence.
As pointed out over on the Total War blog, the game will focus on the period following the end of Roman rule when the Germanic tribes went to war against the fractured nations, consisting of Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, Essex, Sussex, East Anglia and Kent.
A lot of gamers are excited to be able to play as the Anglo Saxons, and dive into a bit of history during that brutal and divisive time period (not that there was ever a time period that wasn’t brutal and divisive).
Anyway, there is no release date set for Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, but it will be arriving at some point later in the year for PC.
