Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle Launches June 5th; Blake And Yang DLC Will Be Free

Arc System Works announced the official release date for Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle. The highly controversial fighting game is due for release on PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch starting June 5th later this year, just ahead of the EVO Championship Series set to take place this summer in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The game’s EVO participation was announced just recently, where it made the cut but not Capcom’s highly despised Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, which not only didn’t sell all that great but also isn’t liked very much by the Fighting Game Community.

What’s crazy is that Blazblue isn’t even out yet and is already wrapped up in its own controversy involving having half the character roster trapped behind a DLC paywall. Arc System Works decided to do it this way because they felt that they could sell half the game for half the price, and then milk the rest of the community on DLC made available post-launch.

This strategy created nothing but chaos and anger in the FGC, but some diehard fanboys still defended the decision.

In order to sate some of the anger, Arc System Works decided to give away two of the DLC characters from the RWBY branch, which includes Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long, both of whom will be available as free downloads at no extra charge.

They will be made available as post-launch DLC, with the press release snidely stating…

“Did you really think we were going to separate TEAM RWBY!?”

That was literally the general gist of the DLC roadmap ahead of this most recent announcement.

So now this means all four of the RWBY cast will be available to play as part of the main roster (well, that’s also taking into account when the two characters actually become available).

We’ll see if fanboys continue to make apologies for the DLC plan or if they’ll stay enraged. So far the community is definitely not entirely on board with this method being adopted by ARC System Works, especially given how similar it sounds to Capcom’s failed experiment with Street Fighter X Tekken.
