If you’ve been itching to see Hana and Rain lock lips once again in the Fear Effect series, you’ll get plenty of it in the crowdfunded sequel, Fear Effect Sedna. Sushee Games and Square Enix Collective announced that you can look to grab the isometric action title for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One starting March 6th.
Benjamin Anseaume, founder of Sushee, explained in the press release that they’ve been tweaking and working on the game since Fear Effect Sedna originally made its way to Steam via demo back in spring of 2017, saying…
“Developing Fear Effect Sedna has really brought the team here at Sushee together, and that’s exactly what the gameplay is about. Each character has different special weapons and the game includes a paused tactical mode to control different team members at the same time and give orders to work as a team. It’s an approach that taps into the core structure of the original games but, with the technology available to us today, feels very 2018.”
The game received lots of criticism for its isometric gameplay style, which was very different from the fixed camera gameplay present in the older PSX titles.
However, the one thing that absolutely is returning is the hot lesbian action. It was one of the defining aspects of the promotional material and a pivotal scene in Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix. It’s been expanded a lot more in Fear Effect Sedna to fit in with today’s sociopolitically charged gaming atmosphere.
Unfortunately for those looking for some steamy 18+ yuri action, the developers say they want to focus more on the development of the lesbian relationship between Hana and Rain instead of just the fan-service. As mentioned in the Kickstarter FAQ…
“The only thing that we will be careful about is not to over-sexualise this(=Hana & Rain) love relationship, that has been probably clumsily highlighted in some marketing campaigns in Fear Effect Retro Helix, and wasn’t doing justice to these two strong characters’ love affair.”
They definitely made sure, however, to pay lip-service to the lesbian elements in the playable demo that was made available, just to remind gamers that it’s most certainly there… it just won’t be there to tantalize, sadly.
As for the gameplay itself, it’s an isometric action title that has players traveling around Greenland, visiting research facilities, underwater stations and delving deep into the Inuit culture and mythology. There will also be some backstory missions to help further expand on the team’s stories and characterization. It’s being described as “deep” and “mature”.

Additionally, Sushee is working on a remake of the original Fear Effect after they release Fear Effect Sedna in March.
The remake is called Fear Effect Reinvented and will be released on the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC. You can look to get your hands on Fear Effect Sedna starting Tuesday on March 6th, 2018 for $19.99.
