Remothered: Tormented Fathers, Realistic Survival-Horror Graduates From Early Access

Darril Arts and Stormind Games announced recently that their realistic survival-horror game, Remothered: Tormented Fathers, has graduated from Early Access on Steam and is now available as a full fledged game.

The title spent just 91 days or three months in the Early Access phase, with the developers only wanting to use it to refine the gameplay and balance out some of the mechanics to ensure that Remothered: Tormented Fathers offered gamers a smooth and stable gaming experience.

With the Steam release now up and out, the team are also working on finishing up ports for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which are due out later on in 2018.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a passion project from Chris Darril, focusing on rekindling the lost art of survival in the horror game genre. He put together an ace team from within the gaming industry, including having the soundtrack composed by The Evil Within’s Nobuko Toda and Luca Balboni. Voiceover work was done by Danielle McRae from League of Legends and Lani Minella from The Last of Us, along with Adam Harrington from The Wolf Among Us. There’s also voiceover work from a supporting cast that includes Olivia Steele, Talmadge Ragan, Brandon Fague and Scott Funderburk.

But aesthetics is only one part of the survival-horror experience. I’m sure most of you are wondering how does Remothered actually play? Well, there is some video footage of the game in action that you can check out below, courtesy of John Wolfe.

The gameplay is very similar to the old-school point-and-click horror games from the 1990s but with the over-the-shoulder camera from newer titles like Resident Evil 4 – 6.

Instead of carrying around a small arsenal that would make John Rambo jealous, you’ll spend majority of your time investigating, hiding, examining, exploring and delving into the game’s atmosphere. The horror elements are definitely still there, but it’s more a slow-burn survival-horror game rather than an out-and-out blockbuster fest like Resident Evil 6.

You don’t have a life bar. Instead, whatever damage you take, you take. You’ll be able to tell how well you’re doing based on the visual feedback of the main character (and if you can still move her). The action all takes place in real-time within the massive mansion without instanced segments or separate load screens.

Unlike games like Outlast or Amnesia, you can fight back in Remothered: Tormented Fathers using whatever kind of weapon you can get your hands on. Alternatively, you can run and hide like in Alien: Isolation, or you can use physics to help you out by blocking pathways or closing doors. The 3D sound design also allows you to listen in on when the enemy is getting close and from which direction, allowing you to react dynamically.

You can pick up a copy of the game right now along with the soundtrack by visiting the digital store page.
