Carbon Studio announced that The Wizards, their VR magic-casting game, will graduate from out of Early Access and launch in full starting March 8th.
The exit from Early Access comes after spending eight months in the developmental cooker, receiving multiple updates and upgrades since July of 2017 when it originally entered into Early Access on Steam last year.
The full release of the game will feature some additional updates to the core game, including the enabling of Steam Achievements, two all new stages to play through in the Ruins, an all new final stage that concludes the game’s story mode, along with the larger than life boss fights.
They’ve also moved the survival mode to the Arena Mode, so gamers can test their wits and hand-waving skill against multiple waves of enemies. One of the other big upgrades is the support for mixed reality HMDs, like the ones that Microsoft brought to the market late last year. The LIV mixed AR/VR tech is showcased in a demonstration trailer for The Wizards, which you can check out below.
As for the actual gameplay… I have to admit that it has an interesting premise.
You’ll have to customize and equip your magic loadout, ranging from fireballs and arcane shields to rune wards and electrical blasts. Each type of magic will help you out during certain kinds of situations, and you’ll have to strategically utilize your magic to save your hide during battle. This means charging up a fireball to take out one enemy while using a magic barrier to block an incoming attack, and destroying a ward tower with your electric fingers. You can see how the gameplay is setup with the trailer below, which gives you a better idea of how the magic system works.
The full game will feature six element-based spells for you to learn and master. You can customize your abilities utilizing Fate Cards, and the game features both locomotion and teleportation-based movement systems.
There’s a full-on campaign mode and an arena survival mode.
You can look for the full version of the game to launch on March 8th for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. At the moment the Early Access version is available for $19.99 over on the Steam store.
