City Of The Shroud, Tactical RPG With Player-Shaping Narrative Launches This Summer

Abyssal Arts announced that City of the Shroud will debut on PC this summer, and that the game will launch in 2019 for Xbox One and PS4.

The real-time tactical RPG features a narrative penned by Moira Katson, the author of The Light and Shadow trilogy. The game is themed around community-driven choices that will change and evolve the story in future chapters of City of the Shroud.

The game is set in the fictional city of Iskendrun, which is on the constant breakout of civil war, which doesn’t sound too far off from real life America. The game will see players choosing to align with one of five different factions in the game.

Despite each faction having internal strife with one another, they’re tenuously working together to protect their home from an invasion from monstrous creatures, forcing uneasy alliances amidst the growing possibility of civil war breaking out.

The game is played supposedly in real-time, despite having tile-based maps where the combat takes place.

There are a variety of units, each with their own abilities and skillsets that can be utilized from a combat wheel. I’m still trying to figure out how the real-time combat plays out across tile-based maps?

Anyway, the gameplay will be shaped by players – every player who plays the game. I’m not sure how that’s going to play out, but the first chapter of City of the Shroud will launch this summer on Steam for $19.99. Subsequent chapters will be released throughout the year (presumably) and they will be influenced by what happens in the first chapter.

Eventually this will lead up to the release of the game’s full version on the Xbox One and PS4. I do wonder how console gamers will feel about playing a game that will ultimately be shaped by PC gamers without any input from console gamers?
