11 Bit Studios announced that Frostpunk is due for release on Steam starting April 24th next month. The news was accompanied by an all new in-engine cinematic trailer, which shows the cost and consequence of trying to keep people alive and safe in a post-apocalyptic world where heat is a rare and highly sought after resource.
The game is themed around keeping the inhabitants alive and safe within the generator-powered city. On the very outskirts of what remains of civilization, players will attempt to rebuild the remains of the city, keep the generator powered and make some really hard decisions when it comes to how they discipline their citizens, utilize propaganda to mobilize the proletariat class, and juggle between being a republic and a dictatorship.
You can get a small taste of what 11 Bit Studios is gunning for with the release date trailer below.
Frostpunk has been receiving various promotional trailers and developer diaries leading up towards its release. They’ve covered the difficult decision making aspects, the strategy aspects, as well as the different ways in which you can manage your frost-punk city. The only thing they didn’t really cover – and I’m sure they’re saving this for when the game actually releases – is what’s beyond the city as you trek through the frost-ridden world to discover new settlements and the possibility of a thriving civilization beyond your own little corner of the world.
11 Bit Studios is aiming to bring some of its moral dilemmas from This War of Mine while combining that with the city management aspects you would expect from SimCity.
You can look for the city-survival game to finally go live starting April 24th next month. If you want to add it to your wishlist or follow the game so you know when it releases, you can do so by visiting the Steam store page.
