The game is based on the seriees of books by Ken Follett, and attempts to graphically adapt the mature tale for gamers the world around. The developers at Daedalic didn’t entirely keep the game true to the spirit of the books, however. A turning-point in the plot involving Aliena’s rape at the hands of the main villain was completely scrubbed from the game, since the developers didn’t feel comfortable broaching the subject matter in their adaptation of The Pillars of the Earth, despite the fact that the game is rated ‘M’ for Mature.
This move didn’t go down well with everyone, as players saw it as a means of censorship.
Even still, if you enjoy historical-based fiction and high-quality animated artwork and storytelling, you can check out Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth Book 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
