Bandai Namco recently announced that the original trilogy of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm will make its way to the Nintendo Switch starting next month on April 26th.
The package will be available via download on the Nintendo eShop. Sorry, no physical release this time around. It’s a real shame because I’m not at all keen on digitally downloading games to the Switch as much as I’m in favor of getting the physical cartridges.
Anyway, the first game follows Naruto as a child, learning the ways of ninjitsu and the power of Jutsu attacks. He becomes friends with familiar faces and also deals with antagonistic pests along the way. The second game begins to take a more clear route on where the story is heading, and Naruto begins to get stronger while his bond with Sasuke is tested when Sasuke’s brother is killed.
The third game follows Naruto and the rest of the gang’s attempt to bring Sasuke back to the light side. Adding in additional characters, modes, and multiplayer options.
The Nintendo Switch version also features all new costumes and episodic scenarios that were previously relegated to DLC. So Switch owners will get all of the basics and then some, proving that every other console release was just a beta test for the one and true version on the Nintendo Switch.
The game utilizes fairly easy-to-learn controls and hard-to-master battles. The gameplay is very similar to Dragon Ball Xenoverse but without the large-scale environments or flying. Unlike Dragon Ball, the Naruto Shippuden series focuses on an adventure mode that may involve environmental traversal or some light platforming, and then a separate instance for the actual combat.
If you enjoy the Naruto series then it’s an okay trilogy to have on hand. The combat isn’t especially deep when compared to some other games out there like the Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi series, but since there aren’t many fighting games available on the Switch, I suppose you’re kind of stuck with Naruto Shippuden as the only viable option anyway.
