The gaming market is undoubtedly the fastest changing and expanding of any industry and every day, new games are being released to the public, hitting download highs in the first few hours after release. 2017 was a rollercoaster year for the world of gaming with some highs and lows that 2018 should definitely take note of, but with the hype around this year’s new releases at a high, things are already looking good. With the Nintendo Switch still in demand and virtual reality starting to seep its way into the industry, the games we’re due to see on the market in the coming months are set to be some of the best yet. Without further ado, here’s our list of some of the new game releases for 2018 that people are already buzzing about!

UFC 3 The UFC 3 live beta version had EA Sports offering us a whole host of potential new features for the upcoming game. From something as simple as some decent controller rumble when a hard hit lands, to brand new lunge and retreat attacks to sample and play with, the combo options are better than ever before. Gameplay is arguably easier to do as far as the controller is concerned, however there is a new complexity to just how you can form your overall fight. With better moves, incredible graphics and some of our favourite fighters returning for the new game, UFC is looking to be a lot better this time around. Plus, if you care to make it a little more interesting, you can place a bet to win some real money.”

Red Dead Redemption 2

The original Red Dead Redemption offering from Rockstar was a hit among PlayStation and Xbox fans alike, and its sequel is already looking like it’s going to follow in its footsteps. What fans might not realise, however, is that this isn’t a sequel at all. In fact, it’s a prequel! This Western open-world adventure will follow Arthur Morgan, an outlaw, and the Van der Linde gang. Of course, we’re graced with the same setting as the previous game, so those looking for a similar game to the first one won’t be disappointed.

With a vague Spring 2018 release date, all we truly have to go off is the trailer and speculation. However, fans of fast-paced gameplay with a side of extra missions seem to be catered for here, with adrenaline-racing horseback chases, plenty of gunfire and fights, and a brand new multiplayer experience to enjoy online.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Heart’s fans rejoice! The third addition to the series is set to be released this year, with a whole new story for you to enjoy. We don’t know much about the game just yet, but we do know – at least as far as the trailer tells us – that Toy Story, Big Hero 6 and Tangled will all be getting the spotlight during this game.

Disney’s D23 Conference is always chock full of new information for movie and gaming fans alike, and this year was no different. The trailer on show saw Sora, Donald and Goofy venture into Andy’s bedroom with a whole new miniature size and toy-like design. As usual, you can expect to play this game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so most console gamers are catered for this time around!

A Way Out

With every new game, of course, comes a need for something unique to give it a selling point to make it all worth it. A Way Out provides exactly that. This is a two-player experience like no other, with a prison break storyline to please puzzle-solving minds. You can play this game in split-screen co-op mode whether the other player is right there beside you, or you’re playing online. Unlike a lot of co-op games, however, you won’t be working together the whole time.

In fact, when playing as Vincent and Leo, the main protagonists, you’ll often find yourselves split up or in an entirely different kind of game. One player could be roaming around looking for a way out, while the other is enjoying a cinematic cut scene. It adds a new level of challenge to a two-player action adventure game, and is due to be released on March 23rd 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Yoshi

The Nintendo Switch was a massive success for the company, and the collection of games that are available to choose from certainly don’t disappoint either. It can be difficult with any console to stay up to date with the latest releases, but with the Nintendo Switch in particular, this is proving to be a struggle. However, there is absolutely no missing the brand new release that is Yoshi, though we unfortunately don’t have a release date just yet.

Yoshi takes Nintendo gameplay back to the platform style that gamers love so much, but with a brand new art style that is familiar but entirely unique. With puzzle solving and a very Little Big Planet atmosphere, fans of these challenging but fun to play games will find themselves revisiting it over and over again.

Contagion VR: Outbreak

I know what you’re thinking: do we really need another first-person shooter? Well, the answer to that question is one up for debate, but Contagion VR: Outbreak is a new take on a classic gaming style. In fact, you won’t really need a controller at all. This PC offering takes up 8GB of RAM, so you’ll need a pretty beefy computer, but the virtual reality is certainly worth investing in a brand new computer.

Vive and Rift owners are already set, as this survival horror game is set to grace these methods of play this year. For those that haven’t delved into the world of virtual reality just yet, it might be time to invest! VR is becoming more and more common in gaming, and with incredible releases like this one, it’s well worth the cost.

2018 is set to be a huge year in gaming, and these are only a few of the incredible offerings the market will have for us in the upcoming months. Whether you’re a fan of Nintendo’s classic characters, or you’re looking for a brand new but equally as intense first person shooter, there is something coming soon to keep your itching fingers happy. What new releases are you looking forward to this year?
