Ubisoft Announces The Division 2, More Information To Come At E3

Ubisoft has announced The Division 2, a sequel to the 2016 MMORPG-like looter-shooter. Ubisoft has shared very little information about the second iteration. However more details will drop during E3 2018.

What is currently known about The Division 2 is Ubisoft had in mind from the start of the first Division that a sequel would follow years after the first game. The second game that’s currently in development has help from Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Bucharest.

The Division 2 will be powered by a new version of the Snowdrop engine, where the previous or existing version isn’t strong enough to allow Ubisoft to do what it really wants to do.

In addition to the new Snowdrop engine, it enables Ubisoft to further “ambitions for the sequel,” but more importantly, the second game is said by the company to bring an even better experience.

Ubisoft will also recognize player commitment that was put into the first game and reflected in the upcoming second game. With that in mind, a new type of achievement called “Shields” will be added to the game. Earning them will unlock special rewards in The Division 2 when it launches.

Players who still enjoy the first Division title can continue to play it with Ubisoft’s support, whereupon future updates will continue to roll out. Ubisoft further elaborates on post-updates for the first game in the following blockquote:

“Following our Year 2 anniversary celebration, we’re going to keep supporting that experience with new title updates that will bring new Global Events, Xbox One X enhancements, and more.”

The first Division is currently available to play across PC, PS4 and Xbox One, while more information about the second iteration is planned to drop at E3 2018 in June.
