Weekly Recap March 24th: FOSTA Ignites Widespread Censorship, Count Dankula Convicted
Weekly Recap
(Last Updated On: March 24, 2018)

FOSTA managed to pass through both the House and the Senate, and all it needs now is a nod from the POTUS and it will make all major websites liable for content produced or distributed through their domain. This firestorm of potential imparted accountability on webmasters has caused a litany of sites to enact widespread censorship related to gun trades and sales, discussion about drugs, prostitution and even the dark web. Even YouTube joined in on the action by censoring guns and videos about guns. Essentially the interwebs is being turned into a no-fun-gun zone.

Personal ads have also been cut off from sites like Craigslist, while Reddit shut down dozens of sub-reddits related to the aforementioned topics. That’s not to mention that Count Dankula was convicted for the “hate crime” of producing offensive humor in the U.K. Even sites like The Independent noted that being jailed for a literal YouTube joke marked a dark day for Freedom of Speech. These sad, sad, sad stories and so much more in this March 24th, 2018 edition of the Weekly Recap.

God Of War Leaked Footage Disappoints

It’s a month out from release and the leaked footage of God of War for the PS4 did not amuse many gamers. Plenty of complaints centered around the fact that the game seems slow, the micromanagement of Kratos’ equipment seems like a step back from the older games, and his annoying, loud-mouthed son is… well, annoying. The Toukiden team is currently working on Orochi 3. Sega announced that a new Sonic racing game is in the works, but we don’t know exactly what the name of the game will be. The Crew 2 has landed a release date at the very end of June for home consoles and PC. And Yakuza Kiwami 2 is scheduled to launch on the PS4 in the West this August.

Borderlands 3 Announcement Is Coming Close To Its Release

Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford has confirmed that the official announcement for Borderlands 3 will be close to the official launch of the game. Whether or not the game will be laced with Social Justice Warrior propaganda is a whole other story, especially after they made a bunch of characters gay in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, including Athena. The Cyberpunk 2077 team is receiving a bit of help with development from a new studio that CD Projekt Red has brought onto the scene called Wroclaw Studio. The God of War developers are aiming to replicate the combat from From Software’s Dark Souls games. And Ubisoft managed to escape the financial grip of Vivendi Universal, only to partner up with the biggest bully on the publishing block, Tencent.

Reddit Bans Gun, Drugs, And Prostitute Sub-Reddits

Reddit has taken a wide-sweeping approach to sub-reddit content, banning lots of gun sub-reddits, drug related sub-reddits, and prostitution related sub-reddits. The mass bans and site-wide censorship comes on the heels of a new bill being passed through Senate that will make website owners liable for content posted by users. The development on God of War is now complete. Creative director Cory Barlog announced via Twitter that God of War has gone gold for the PS4. Both Gearbox Software and Ubisoft have announced that they are opening up new studios. In Gearbox’s case the new studio will work on AAA titles, while the Ubisoft studios will work on AA titles. And the PS4 managed to beat the Nintendo Switch in the February NPD charts.

Tomb Raider Trilogy Remaster Cancelled

Square Enix broke plenty of hearts when they announced that the remastered trilogy of the old Tomb Raider games was cancelled. The developer is now going to focus on making AR and VR games for mobile devices instead of trying to make that old blocky Lara look sexy for today’s generation of gaming. The Unreal Engine 4 is being used in collaboration with Microsoft’s new Direct X DXR API to render ray-tracing in newer GPUs, thanks to Nvidia’s new RTX line of support. The best part about it is that games utilizing DXR will be released later this year, which includes Metro Exodus. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon creative director Dean Evans has departed from Ubisoft, and plans on working on his own little project following a split from his wife. And for a limited time you can grab a free digital copy of F1 2015 for Steam from the Humble Store.
