West Of Loathing Coming To Nintendo Switch Spring, 2018

Asymmetric’s West of Loathing turned out to be a surprise hit on PC when it launched last year on Steam. The game went on to sell more than 125,000 copies on Steam, according to Steam Spy. The developers, Asymmetric, are now porting the game to the Nintendo Switch starting this spring.

The announcement for the Switch version arrived during the Nindies spotlight from Nintendo this past week. The point-and-click adventure game seems like a rather apt kind of game for the Switch audience given that it has irreverent humor, lots of wry comedy, and can easily be played with the touchscreen controls.

The game’s black-and-white stick figure designs fits in with the bizarre humor, as players will be able to choose from three different characters, completing missions and engaging in turn-based combat.

Yes, it’s a point-and-click adventure game with turn-based combat. You can collect guns, knives, horses, meat, and ale. You’ll meet a bevy of oddball characters, carrying out a variety of missions for them while also attempting to make your way west.

In a way, you could say that West of Loathing is like a stick-figure hipster version of Earthbound… even though technically Earthbound was already pretty hipster. But you get the gist.

There are plenty of quests to take on and complete, and a variety of locations to visit.

Asymmetric weren’t afraid to poke fun at themselves and take the audience on a ridiculous ride with a practically no-nothing story. In fact, the story is about as in-depth as a Seinfield episode.

For people who enjoy lazy-style gaming adventures, West of Loathing isn’t a bad way to go about it.

You can look for the game to launch on the Nintendo Switch as a console exclusive starting this spring in 2018. The game is available for $10.99 over on the Steam store, but it’s discounted by 20% over the next couple of days.
