Count Dankula’s Discord Channel Censored By Discord Without Warning

Discord permanently banned the Dank Brigade Discord channel. If you attempt to visit the page or request an invite, you’ll receive an error message on the Discord app page indicating that the page has expired or is invalid.

There were more than 8,000 people who were part of the during the time of which it was terminated.

After thousands of tweets and lots of contacting Discord’s customer service and their Twitter, Count Dankula finally received a response as to why the Dank Brigade was terminated. According to a tweet from Dankula, the termination was in response to content posted by random users from over a year ago.

Over on Discord app sub-reddit, a couple of users asked specifically what was it that the users posted that resulted in the channel being terminated.

According to one user, going by the handle of Wasted_Penguinz, there were a number of users posting material that allegedly broke Discord’s terms of service…

“Most likely scenario is that someone broke the ToS and someone else reported it. Allegedly (this is according to some people who lurked there) people were posting ToS breaking material, such as lolis and racist memes, and whenever they were pointed out that it was against the guidelines, the mods (or a few mods) threatened to ban them or something similar. I know that Discord usually just removes or bans the people posting that kind of stuff in different Discord-channels, so the fact that the whole server was deleted tells it was on a bigger scale.”

The terms of service do note that they do not allow for obscene, pornographic and objectionable content.

However, it was never stated by Count Dankula exactly what Discord found objectionable about the content posted by some random users.

According to a post on Kotaku In Action, user Erithal posted a comment indicating that the Dank Brigade occasionally posted imagery of scatology. This is also referenced in Count Dankula’s video about joining the Discord channel and how you’ll have to give consent before joining because occasionally there will be scat porn on the channel.

This, however, is not a definitive answer as to why Discord terminated the channel.

According to the terms of service, they can terminate an account for any reason without disclosing what the reason is, stating…

“The Company may terminate your Account and your access to the Service (or, at the Company’s sole option, applicable portions of the Service) at any time and for any reason. The Company is not required to provide you with any notice or warning prior to any such termination. You may, as the result of termination, lose your Account and all information and data associated therewith, including without limitation your Virtual Currency and Virtual Goods, as applicable and the Company is under no obligation to compensate you for any such loss.”

Of course, this still brings up the issue of Discord choosing to ban an entire channel instead of banning the users who broke the terms of service.

As noted by Count Dankula in the follow-up tweet, Discord has allowed him to make a new Discord channel. So Count Dankula himself did not violate any of their terms of service but something triggered the Discord staff into completely removing the channel. Without any form of disclosing why they did what they did, there’s no way to know exactly why they chose to censor his channel.
