May’s Xbox Games With Gold Include Super Mega Baseball 2, Metal Gear Solid 5, Vanquish
Metal Gear Solid 5 Games With Gold

Microsoft’s Games With Gold for May, 2018 are actually pretty hot. Microsoft seems to want gamers playing on the Xbox throughout May because they actually have some worthwhile games packed into the Games With Gold for Xbox Live subscribers.

The month kicks off with Super Mega Baseball 2 for the Xbox One, which most people won’t care about. However, for people with a nostalgia boner there’s Streets of Rage for the Xbox 360. The Streets of Rage bundle actually contains all three Streets of Rage games.

Later in the month Xbox One owners gain access to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is going to be a huge mover and shaker for everyone who didn’t already purchase a copy when it came out back in 2015. This will be followed by the Xbox 360 version of Vanquish.

Of course, the highlight for the Xbox 360 titles is that both games are backwards compatible with the Xbox One.

Vanquish recently stepped back into the spotlight after Sega finally had the game ported to PC and after becoming backwards compatible. So if you don’t have an Xbox console it’s probably best to get the game on discount via Steam. And the same also applies to Metal Gear Solid V, since you can access things like the Quiet nude mod, which is well worth the download for those who own the PC version of the game.

So just to recap:

  • Super Mega Baseball 2: May 1st – May 31st
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: May 16th – June 15th
  • Streets of Rage: May 1st – May 15th
  • Vanquish: May 16th – May 31st

It’s a pretty huge step up from the awful hipster games offered in April. Real gamers looking for some real meat on their digital bones will find a decent selection of titles for the May line-up.

Of course, the only major drawback is that you need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription if you want to access the Games With Gold titles for May.

I’m sure Sony will counter Microsoft by filling up their collection with a bunch of indie hipster titles and long forgotten niche games that no one has ever heard of for the PlayStation Vita.
