It is worth noting that all of the following information about the PS5 should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the claim comes from a person that actually predicted quite of bit of stuff accurately well before the various products hit the market. This time around, the PS5 specs are supposedly detailed in a new claim.
Notice: The following information has not been confirmed by Sony itself, meaning that you should take this information with a grain of salt. Although the site does have a decent track record, caution should not be out of the equation.
According to publication site semiaccurate.com it is said that the PS5 is in the works. The site in question goes on to remind readers that…
“You might recall when SemiAccurate told you about the different console cycle of the current gen consoles back in 2013, back then we said there would be a PS4.1/4.2/4.3 etc. We also said the current gen consoles would be upgraded not replaced from the ground up, evolution not revolution. People laughed. Devs laughed. We now have the PS4 Pro and the XBox One X and they aren’t laughing.”
Fast forward ahead of 2013 and we truly got the PS4 — fast forward a bit more and we also got the PS4 Slim, and the PS4 Pro, and we did not see replaced consoles but upgraded ones instead. The site also backs up its track record by saying:
“Speaking of laughter, people also did quite a bit of that when we exclusively told you about the specs for the PS4, XBox (not named) One (then), and Nintendo Switch. This of course didn’t stop the trolls but since this is the internet, nothing will.”
Moreover, we now have the same site supposedly spilling the beans ahead of time in regards to the “PS5” as it’s called now. The site goes on to say:
So now it is time for the Playstation 5/Next or whatever Sony ends up calling it. We once again have real technical info on it, and two possible launch dates, one more solid than the other. You might want to hold off on that XBox One X if you plan on buying it in the next few months, Sony has quite a beast in the wings.
The beast in the wings is said to use AMD’s Navi as its base architecture, however it is not specifically using Navi — but something similar. The CPU is a custom ZEN, which is accompanied by VR “goodies” baked in the machine, and that a large amount of devkits have been shipped out.
The author suggests a release of the PS5 could be set for the near future due to the amount of devkits released, which is followed up with him stating “sure sign that the launch is getting close.” However, it is not definitive at this point and could likely release in 2019 or much later.
I would like to add that the above information does fall in line with something found recently, which revolves around a Gearbox job listing looking for developers with experience using next generation consoles for a “stellar AAA” title. The part describing a person with said knowledge can be found over on the Animation Programmer job listing, as seen below.
Time will tell whether the aforesaid is right or not, but with all of that said, would you like to see Sony release this so-called “PS5” sometime soon or no?
