Nintendo Prepares New 3DS Games For 2019 And Beyond

It looks like Nintendo will continue to support its 2011 handheld device, the 3DS, up until 2019 and beyond. Not only will the company continue the 3DS business by leveraging its install base but it will support the device’s software library, too.

According to company president Tatsumi Kimishima, it was said during the latest Nintendo financial results briefing that the 3DS will see support after 2019. The information on relaying 3DS support can be found on nintendo.co.jp.

If you or someone you know plan on picking up the handheld device sometime soon, support for it will be running well into the future. In other words, the 3DS software will be churned out later down the pipeline.

We know this when Kimishima noted that…

“We will continue the Nintendo 3DS business by leveraging its installed base and rich software library. We believe it is important to leverage the rich library of Nintendo 3DS series titles to drive sales with existing Nintendo 3DS owners as well as with consumers who recently purchased the Nintendo 3DS hardware, and are investigating strategies for doing so.”

Kimishima continued on and said:

“In addition to the titles currently on sale, we have announced the coming release of the titles shown here. We are even preparing new software for release in 2019 and beyond. Our plan is to continue maintaining this business by taking advantage of new titles like these.”

If you want to know the titles that Kimishima is referring to, the list of games spanning from May of 2018 all the way to 2019 includes:

May 2018 – Dillion’s Dead Heat Breakers
June 2018 – Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido
July 2018 – Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
August 2018 – WarioWare Gold
Later 2018 – Luigi’s Mansion
Sometime in 2019 – Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey

It’s unclear if Nintendo will keep up full 3DS support all the way into the year 2020, but seeing how 2019 is in the picture and the word “beyond”, it wouldn’t be shocking if the near ten-year-old device keeps on pushing into the future.
