SNK Corporation and NIS America announced that the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is set to arrive this fall for the Nintendo Switch, featuring many of SNK’s most beloved and cherished classics, all made available in a massive arcade anthology.
They announced that the titles featured in the collection are composed of games that came out before the Neo Geo was brought to the market, so you’ll be able to experience arcade games like P.O.W., Psycho Soldier, Street Smart, TNK III and Vanguard. I used to play P.O.W. quite a bit given that it’s a real gamer’s game, with intense melee and weapon-based combat.
A total of 13 titles were unveiled but there will be more revealed at a later date leading up toward the release of SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. You can check out the list below:
1. Alpha Mission (Console/Arcade)
2. Athena (Console/Arcade)
3. Crystalis (Console)
4. Ikari Warriors (Console/Arcade)
5. Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road (Console/Arcade)
6. Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue (Console/Arcade)
7. Guerrilla War (Console/Arcade)
8. P.O.W. (Console/Arcade)
9. Prehistoric Isle (Arcade)
10. Psycho Soldier (Arcade)
11. Street Smart (Arcade)
12. TNK III (Console/Arcade)
13. Vanguard (Arcade)
I imagine this is both a great way for gamers looking to kindle the fires of nostalgia and for older gamers to introduce the younger generation toward some classics that helped shape the yesteryears of gaming.
No price point has been revealed yet and a precise release date hasn’t been narrowed down, but they did mention that they will have save and reind features implemented, updated graphics with 1080p output and support, along with an SNK Museum Mode, which allows you to check out original promotional assets and artwork from some of the classic titles.
I imagine we’ll find out more about the anthology either during a Nintendo Direct or after SNK Heroines launches this summer. Either way, it seems like NIS America is working really hard in an attempt to get back into the good graces of gamers after the multiple blunders they’ve had.
