Downward Spiral: Horus Station Launches This Summer For PSVR
Downward Spiral Horus Station Release Date

3rd Eye Studios’ Downward Spiral: Horus Station is set to launch officially for PC on May 31st, while the PS4 version will release this summer along with support for the PlayStation VR for $19.99. The zero gravity first-person action-thriller has been edging ever closer to its release on home consoles and PC, and just ahead of its release the developers let loose a new developer diary covering the gameplay and story behind the title.

The PlayStation VR support will be optional, so you don’t have to play the game with the VR headset, but you can totally choose to if you want to.

The developer diary covers how they came up with the general concept, what the pipeline was like, and how the controls are implemented for the game, both for those using controllers and those using the VR wands. You can check it out below.

What’s interesting is that Downard Spiral: Horus Station has no cinematics and has no dialogue. The entire story unfolds based on players exploring the levels and figuring out what happened based on visually investigating the Horus Station without the developers specifically telling you what’s going on or why.

They also avoided adding in traditional weapons. There are no standard weapons to acquire in Downward Spiral. Instead, every weapon you acquire is actually a tool of some sort from around the station, including nail guns, bolters, and grappling hooks.

There are also two different modes of play, one for exploration – which contains all the basic gameplay progression elements but none of the enemies – and one for engagement. The engagement mode features the Horus Station agents, which will see players having to use more than just their puzzle-solving skills to progress, they’ll also have to acquire weapons to overcome the agents and defeat the security systems in order to progress.

All of this will take place with a retro-futuristic aesthetic based on how 1970’s films depicted space-age technology. This is accompanied by an ambient-synth soundtrack put together by Ville Valo from HIM.
