Milanoir, 1970s Italian Crime-Noir Action Game Hits Switch, PS4, Xbox One May 31st

Based on Italian pulp action films from the 1970s, Milanoir from Italo Games is a hybrid action game that combines elements of stealth, urban-themed shootouts, over-the-top chase sequences, and lots of nonstop bloody action based around the crime-ridden streets of Italy during the 1970s.

Good Shepherd Entertainment and Italo Games announced that you’ll be able to pick up a digital copy of Milanoir starting May 31st for the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC.

According to the developers, the game was inspired by cult-classic Italian films such as Caliber 9 and Almost Human. You’ll have to combine stealth with brawling and shooting while taking down Italy’s organized crime syndicate.

You’ll need to find the man who framed you for murder in order to seek revenge and clear your name.

You can see what the cinematic, pixelated gameplay is like with the release date trailer below.

The cool part about it is that the game’s campaign mode can be played either in single-player or in two-player co-op, so you and a buddy can exact revenge on the thugs and gangsters plaguing the neighborhood.

For Nintendo Switch in particular will allow you to play two-player co-op on one console using one pair of Joy-Con controllers, with player-one using the left Joy-Con and player-two using the right Joy-Con.

There’s also an added co-op arena mode where you’ll be able to fight endless waves of enemies in deathmatch pit.

I like that this game has a very distinct visual style to it, it reminds me a little bit of Retro City Rampage fused with River City Ransom.

I’m glad that Italian game studio, Italo Games, decided to take a very different approach to the whole 2D side-scrolling action genre. I really wish we had more creative games like this, but hopefully if Milanoir sells well enough we could possibly see more like it.

You can wishlist the game for PC by visiting the Steam store, or seek out a digital copy come May 31st when the game arrives on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation Store for PS4, and the Xbox Store for Xbox One.
