Safe House Lets You Build Your Own Spy Agency Starting May 22nd
Safe House

Labs Games announced that their spy agency simulator, Safe House, will be making its debut on Steam starting Tuesday, May 22nd next week. You’ll be able to pick up the title for $9.99, but during the first week of being on sale you’ll be able to get your hands on the game for 10% off the normal price for only $8.99.

The theme behind Safe House is that it’s based on old spy films from the 1960s, where you’re working as an intelligence officer working as part of an elite CIA task force in the fictional country of Kazataire, where you’re tasked with gathering intel on those in charge in order to grease the wheels of an impetus for a coup. You’ll need to recruit and train up spies who will carry out missions for you. Successful missions will result in new upgrades and gear, along with more difficult mission challenges leading toward one of the numerous endings available in the single-player campaign.

You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

As you can see, the gameplay is a little like the geoscape mode in XCOM but with a lot of micromanagement of the spies and their missions, not unlike a mix of Beholder and Papers, Please.

As you start out on your missions you’ll need to earn some cash, acquire fake IDs, stage exit plans, and acquire equipment, codenames, and secret phrases to make everything work as intended. Of course, you’ll also need contingency plans in case a spy gets caught or your safe house gets compromised.

The premise of the game seems kind of neat, controlling and manipulating the inner workings of a government through a spy program in order to destabilize the current administration. It’s just like the real life CIA!

You can wishlist the game right now or look for it to drop on the Steam store starting May 22nd for $9.99.
