E3 2018: Strange Brigade Trailer Covers Co-op Puzzles, Third-Person Exploration

Rebellion’s Strange Brigade was on hand at E3 this year. It may not have taken any of the stage conferences by storm, but it did manage to carve out its own corner of promotion during the busy show floor exploits. The latest trailer exhibits one of the new stages for the upcoming third-person shooter, showcasing more of the co-op play in action.

The game was originally announced last year during E3 2017, featuring a “diverse” group of playable characters set during the World War. Earlier this year they announced that Strange Brigade would be launching later this summer on August 28th, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

During E3, Rebellion released a new trailer outlining one of the other stages that players will be fighting through, which you can check out below.

Lead game designer Steve Bristow walks gamers through the newest level. Ben Fisher, the studio design lead, joins Steve on commentary. They explain that during the level you’ll need to acquire treasure that you can use to upgrade and unlock new gear for your characters.

As they progress through the level they use a Tesla-style turret to take out some of the zombies. It’s also possible to split off into groups to explore caves or search out secrets within the level.

They explain that the game isn’t trying to be historically accurate or historically immersive, opposite of Battlefield V. The developers make it known that the game is based on the serial comics from the old days. It’s designed to be hokey and tongue-in-cheek with lots of puzzles and adventure elements based on Indiana Jones.

To drive home the point that the game is pretty goofy and doesn’t take itself too seriously, there’s a narrator who makes comments throughout the level to give you hints about where to go or the progress that you’re making through the game.

Additionally, there are co-op puzzles in the game where multiple players will have to work together in order to overcome the traps.

The game is due out on August 28th, 2018 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
