Overkill Software, 505 Games and Skybound Entertainment dropped the latest trailer for Overkill’s The Walking Dead just ahead of this year’s E3. The trailer is yet another cinematic, introducing gamers to the final survivor of the group, Heather.
It was obvious it wasn’t going to be a straight, white male; a straight, Asian male; or heck even a straight, Hispanic male, because then there would be a deluge of articles from a bunch of propaganda-peddling outrage grifters that control the major enthusiast media about something-something “the Patriarchy”. But anyway, the three minute cinematic starts with Heather collecting supplies in a shopping cart from an abandoned grocery store.
However, her shopping gets interrupted when three hoodlums attack her. She begins fighting back, but eventually she gets beat like she was Sean Penn’s ex-wife and left for dead. Check it out below.
She ends up killing the short-haired, butch lesbian by smashing her neck into the broken glass, and then she shoots the second dude in the gut. The manliest man of the group ends up physically respecting her like a male feminist by Chris Brown’ing her, and then takes his wounded buddy to an alley to patch him up.
Heather follows them to the alley and ends up locking the duo behind a gate, and then she bargains for her bag after firing a flare to alert the walkers.
Mr. Manly Man gives her the bag and she drops the keys for them while slowly walking away. If Mr. Manly Man had managed to open the gate fast enough he could have bopped her upside the head and taken the bag back. It didn’t seem like a very good plan.
Also, I have no idea how this CGI trailer was supposed to get people geeked for the game. Will you be able to play as a hapless character who gets pummeled like someone on the wrong side of a drunken Mel Gibson fit of rage and then lock other survivors behind gates? When you get injured will you walk around slowly?
If none of those features are going to be in the game then it’s all a waste of time anyway. Virtue signaling a strong independent woman isn’t going to net Overkill Software any additional sales from actual gamers, and the people who pretend to care about the feminist messaging are too busy raping women to care.
At the end of the day I don’t know who these trailers are for (certainly not for gamers) and the character profiles for each of the survivors are neither interesting nor enticing. Hopefully we’ll get some actual gameplay footage soon that actually gives gamers an idea of what to expect from the actual game.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead is due for release at some point in the fall for home consoles and PC.
