Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana Definitive Edition Is Finally Available For Nintendo Switch

NIS America announced that Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is finally available for the Nintendo Switch. It’s been eight months since the other PS4 and PS Vita versions launched, and it’s been two months since the game released on Steam for PC. Switch owners were dead last in getting their hands on a version of the game, and it’s the first time that a Ys game has appeared on a Nintendo console in the last 20 years.

NIS America is calling the Switch version of the game the “Definitive Edition” given that it contains the base game along with all of the previously released DLC and all of the latest patches, along with the revamped and improved localization.

You can see what the gameplay is like on the Switch with the launch trailer below.

The game features the main character, Adol, who ends up washed ashore after a shipwreck and stranded on a cursed island. Players will help Adol work with other shipwrecked warriors, mages, and pirates, as he attempts to fight against the monsters on the cursed island and discover the mystery behind the dream of a blue-haired hottie named Dana.

The gameplay reminds me a lot of the newer Xenoblade Chronicles or Tales Of games, where the player can run around in real-time and battle enemies, unleashing melee and magic attacks.

The single-player JRPG originally came out for the PS4 and PS Vita, but gamers complained about the poor localization effort by NIS America, who opted to translate the game in a rather stilted way. After gamers complained about the localization, NIS America apologized and promised to release a patch, which they did in January of 2018.

The PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game were still delayed, though, and it wasn’t until April of 2018 did Steam and GOG.com users finally get their hands on the game.

Switch owners had to wait a couple of more months before finally being able to purchase Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. You can pick up a copy of the game from retail outlets or from the Nintendo eShop right now. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
