Assetto Corsa Competizione Adopts Unreal Engine 4, Heads To Early Access This Summer

Italian developer Kunos Simulazioni and publisher 505 Games announced that Assetto Corsa Competizione will head into Early Access this summer for PC. This is a sequel to the original Assetto Corsa that came out back in 2014.

Unlike the previous outing, Kunos Simulazioni decided to abandon their old game engine and switch over to Epic’s Unreal Engine 4. The developers did note, however, that they retained all of the data that they used in their original engine and managed to recreate the car physics, handling, and visuals based on what they had developed for the first game.

We get to briefly see how the game plays out with the E3 tech demo that Kunos Simulazioni posted up to their YouTube channel. You can see what the gameplay is like with the video below.

In addition to switching over to the Unreal Engine 4, the game also now includes officially licensed teams and drivers, along with officially licensed vehicles. Assetto Corsa Competizione also includes all new race modes, such as the Total 24 Hours of Spa endurance race.

The game is boasting realistic tire grip, aerodynamic impact, engine parameters that affect performance, suspension systems that determine handling, and electronic systems that controls and determine vehicle balance.

Players will be able to take these vehicles around photogrammetrically captured maps based on 1:1 laser scanning. So Kunos Simulazioni wants to compete with Milestone when it comes to the realism of the maps.

Assetto Corsa Competizioni will also support advanced multiplayer functionality, online competitions and leagues, along with all of the latest and greatest PC peripherals for the most realistic handling that a driving sim can afford you. Of course, we’ll find out exactly how true this is when the reviews and YouTube videos start popping up testing out how well the wheels and pedal sets handle with the game.

The actual Early Access release date will be announced this weekend during the livestream for the Total 24 Hours of Spa race.
