Business Insider’s Daniella Greenbaum Resigns After Article Is Pulled For Criticizing SJWs

Scarlett Johansson

Daniella Greenbaum wrote an opinion article for Business Insider that was published on July 6th, 2018. The article defended Scarlett Johansson’s casting as a trans man for an upcoming film after Social Justice Warriors from the Intersectional Inquisition decided to bombard Johansson and the production for not hiring a transgender person for the role. After the article was removed, Greenbaum decided to resign from Business Insider.

Later that day, on July 6th, 2018, the article was pulled from Business Insider.

The Daily Beast published an article on July 7th, 2018 [via KiA] indicating that Business Insider will no longer publish “hot takes” like Greenbaum’s without it going through the executive editor’s office. In fact, editorials on Business Insider are now no longer allowed to refer to fanatical activists as “Social Justice Warriors”. The Daily Beast posted the e-mail that was sent out from the Business Insider editor-in-chief Nich Carlson, which read…

“Editors should make sure we are not publishing shallow, ‘hot takes,’ but instead, fully thought-out arguments that reflect and respect the opposing view. There should be no partisan name-calling, e.g. ‘social justice warriors,’ ‘libtards,’ or ‘rednecks.’ Opinion and arguments should feel reported and researched, and not like quick reactions.”

“This does not mean our argument-writers should not take big swings, or that they must have opinions shared by everyone in our newsroom.”

Even though the article has been removed, with the message “Business Insider removed the column because, upon further review, we decided it did not meet our editorial standards.”, archives of Greenbaum’s article are still available for perusal.

In the article, Greenbaum calls a spade a spade, writing…

“Scarlett Johansson is the latest target of the social-justice warrior mob. The actress is being chastised for, well, acting.

“She has been cast in a movie in which she will play someone different than herself. For this great crime — which seems to essentially define the career path she has chosen — she is being castigated for being insufficiently sensitive to the transgender community.

“Johansson is set to play a transgender man in an upcoming film, “Rub and Tug,” a film based on the true story of transgender massage parlor owner Dante “Tex” Gill. The announcement quickly garnered a reaction.”

“Reaction” is putting it mildly. Johansson was trending for nearly two days across social media for being cast to play a trans man, starting on July 3rd, 2018.

That wasn’t enough, though, the Social Justice Warriors spilled over into a second keyword phrase and began making it trend as well… it was none other than the “Black Widow” phrase, as people began ragging on the film following the announcement that Johansson would be playing a trans man. This also started to trend on July 3rd, 2018.

This continued on for some days, with the Social Justice Warrior community actively trying to get the studio to replace Scarlett Johansson with a trans actor. Later on Johansson decided to finally back out of the project due to the pressure from Social Justice Warriors.

Nothing in Greenbaum’s piece exaggerated or misrepresented what happened, but Business Insider still took the piece down.

On July 12th, 2018 Greenbaum decided to resign from Business Insider, making her resignation letter to the editor-in-chief public on Twitter.

If you’re unable to read the tweet, the gist of the letter reads…

“[…] I wanted to weigh in on when I saw the brouhaha about Scarlett Johansson’s role in the upcoming movie “Rub and Tug.”

“My judgment: Yes. A woman can play a man or a trans man.

“And so, in a column we published on Friday, July 6th, I criticized those who suggested that she was doing anything nefarious by taking this job.

“Apparently, that radical view – that actors should be free to act – is beyond the pale of acceptable opinion, as just a few hours after it went up, the piece was erased from the site following a campaign against me.

“I have other views that some might consider ‘controversial.’

“I believe, for example, ‘safe spaces’ are an inane concept that belong nowhere near our institutions of higher learning.

“I believe that people should be admitted to universities on the basis of merit, not depending on the color of their skin.

“I believe that Hamas – not Israel – is the worst enemy the Palestinian people have.

“I believe that members of the gang MS13 are animals, and that there’s nothing wrong with saying so.

“I believe that accusations of ‘cultural appropriation’ encourage divisions instead of bridging them.

“I had hoped to be able to write about these and other issues as a columnist here, and for a while, I did.

“I have enjoyed the few months I have worked here and I am really disheartened about what has transpired in the past few days.

“I wish I could say I am surprised.

“Unfortunately, what happened with my piece – the tarring of a commonsensical view as somehow bigoted or not thought out; the capitulation on the part of those who are supposed to be the adults to the mob – is a pattern happening all over the country within institutions that pride themselves on open-mindedness and liberalism. […]”

With that, Daniella Greenbaum signed off with a resignation of her position as a columnist at Business Insider, “effective immediately”.

This is just another instance in a long line of dogpiling or censorship employed against anyone who does not readily adopt the doctrines of the Intersectional Inquisition or its various underlings in the hierarchy of the Oppression Oberkommandos and the Rainbow Reich.
