Final Fantasy XIII, Sly Cooper Trilogy Now Playable Via RPCS3 PS3 Emulator

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain reasons to keep your old PlayStation 3. Why? Because if you have a mid-ranged PC you can very well play PS3 games fine and dandy through the RPCS3 emulator. A bevy of games are now playable on the PS3 emulator, including titles that have received a couple of much-needed fixes, such as Tekken Tag Tournament 2, the Sly Cooper trilogy, and the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was bootable in the RPCS3 emulator and you could get into the game and play it, but there was a display issue that would cut half the screen off so you couldn’t play it properly. As depicted in the video below over on the RPCS3 YouTube channel, you can clearly see that the game is now fully playable.

The game now plays out almost perfectly.

It’s a real shame that Bandai Namco have yet to port Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to PC because it would be a worthy entry on Steam since there are still a ton of characters who haven’t been added to Tekken 7, such as Lei Wulong and Anna Williams. I mean, how the heck can they have Lee but not Lei?

Anyway, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 isn’t the only new game to become fully playable in the RPCS3 emulator. A few other notable PS3 games have also joined the ranks, including the Sly Cooper trilogy, and Yakuza Kenzan. You can see a demonstration of the games in action with the video below.

Previously you couldn’t actually get into the game of Yakuza Kenzan but now you can. So this is pretty big news for those of you who have wanted to play the game but didn’t own a PS3.

A number of MSAA and shader fixes have been made for Killzone 2 and Tales of Vesperia.

Other games like Final Fantasy XIII are now playable in-game for the first time. Square’s Final Fantasy XIII-2 is also playable for the first time in-game, along with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Now keep in mind that while you can play Lightning Returns, the game suffers from a lot of graphical artifacts, and texture filtering issues, shader distortions, and shadow map rendering lapses, so you’re not going to get a full-on experience the way you may have hoped for.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of other fully playable games that have been added to the RPCS3’s ever-growing list of compatible software, including Dynasty Warriors: Gundam and The Incredible Hulk, both of which are playable for the very first time in the RPCS3.

If you want to download the PS3 emulator, you can do so for free by visiting the official RPCS3 website.

Alternatively, if you want to donate a couple of coins to the developers for the hard work they’re putting in, you can do so by visiting the RPCS3 Patreon page.
