If you can’t wait for the open beta version of MapleStory 2 in the West, and would prefer to grab the Chinese or Korean version of the game, there’s actually a way to download and install the Chinese and Korean version of MapleStory 2 and apply an English patch.
First thing is first, you’ll need the MapleStory 2 client. You can acquire the client by downloading it from the official MapleStory 2 Korean website. You can download the Chinese client from the SEA Gamer Mall website.
If you need an account, you’ll need a working mobile phone that can receive text messages. MMO Pulse will you through the steps to register an account.
Once the client downloads and installs, you’ll now need to download and install the patch. YouTuber RagingNinjaGaming has a quick three minute guide on how to install the patch for the Korean version of MapleStory 2.
So first thing is first, download the English patch from the Miyu Yami’s Github page.
Also you’ll need WinRar to unzip the files and extract the contents. You can download Winrar from the Rarlab.com website.
So go into the MapleStory 2 game director, and then proceed to go into the ‘Data’ sub-folder.
Make a backup copy of all the files in the folder, and then delete the files:
Proceed to launch the Nexon Launcher, and boot up MapleStory 2.
When the launcher pops up quickly uncheck the little box by the blue launch button, as indicated in the image below.
Two more Xml files will be created once the launcher finishes updating the game. Proceed to delete the two files in the ‘Data’ folder that are created when the launcher updates.
Proceed to open up the English translation files you downloaded and copy the Xml.m2d and Xml.m2h files into MapleStory 2’s ‘Data’ folder.
Bam, you’re done. Proceed to click on the big blue button on the launcher and the Korean version of MapleStory 2 will be in English.
YouTuber SavidyTV also has a quick six minute guide on how to install the English patch for the Chinese version of the game.
Just like with the Korean version, you’ll still need Miyu’s English patch file.
Now if you have the Chinese version installed, you’ll need to open up the MapleStory 2 data folder. It might be slightly different from the Korean version, insofar that the directory might be: MapleStory2/Client/Data.
Go into the data file and delete the other Xml files in the folder and extract the English patch files into the directory.
Go to the search bar and search up: C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts file
Open the file location for the hosts file.
Open the hosts file with Windows Notepad and at the bottom of the file you’re going to want to paste or type in the highlighted segment into the file:
Save the file and close out Notepad.
Start up the Chinese version of MapleStory 2 and it should be in English.
Now some of you might be wondering why you would want to play the Korean or Chinese versions of the game and not the Global version of the game. Well, the Global version of MapleStory 2 is censored. Nexon has so far not provided a reason why, but if it’s anything like Hyper Universe, they won’t be uncensoring the game in the West. So the only way to play the uncensored version is to play the Chinese or Korean version of the game.
