Monster Hunter: World Sales Help Capcom Reach Record-Breaking First Quarter

Monster Hunter: World, whether you like the game or not, has helped Capcom reach a new record-breaking first quarter. The RPG giant monster hunting game has moved 8.3 million units, which includes worldwide shipments and digital downloads combined.

That’s right, Monster Hunter: World hasn’t even released on PC yet and the company has set a record for the first quarter thanks to a new report on capcom.co.jp/ir.

As seen on Capcom’s financial chart, overall net sales increased by 45.6 percent year-over-year to 17.2 billion yen which translates to $155 million. Additionally, profits increased by 648.6 percent to $35.1 million.

Capcom’s Digital Contents division net sales have increased by 79.3 percent year-over-year to $124.4 million. Operating profit also increased by 242.2 percent to $51.4 million over the same period.

According to Capcom and the uptick, the company thanks Monster Hunter: World, which sold 8.3 million units since launching on PS4 and Xbox One back on January 26th, 2018.

Moreover, with the release of the PC version of Monster Hunter: World right around the corner, we should hear yet another report about increased sales and profits or something along those lines soon after its release.

Speaking of the PC version, Monster Hunter: World’s producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, gave an early 2018 explanation as to why it didn’t release with the home console version lies below:

“For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right. So rather than have it taking up resources during the console development and not it not being able to have our full attention on it. We want to get console out the door and then we’re going to take some extra time and try and get the PC version as good as possible.”

Tsujimoto went on to explain that…

“There’s extra work you need for PC as well. On console you use first party matchmaking, you just kind of plug into it, whether it’s PSN or Xbox Live, but on PC we’re going to have to work more to get our own matchmaking working. So, hopefully, PC users won’t mind waiting a little bit longer for us to bring you a really great optimised PC experience.”
