Robert Kirkman’s Thief Of Thieves: Season One Launches On Steam

Finnish game developers, Rival Games, announced that Thief of Thieves: Season One has officially launched on the Steam store for $24.99. During the first week of being on sale you can get your hands on the game for 10% off the normal price for $22.49.

The game is a mixed media stealth game that combines storyboard comic sequences with stylized isometric exploration and stealth gameplay.

Thief of Thieves: Season One contains two of the first four volumes, while the third volume will be available on July 23rd, and the fourth volume will launch on July 30th.

The game is based on the eponymous graphic novel from Robert Kirkman. It follows a thief named Celia who is hired to take on a number of heists as the protege of a master thief named Redmond. After a botched job, Celia heads to Europe to start anew with a fresh team, where you’ll be able to make decisions that shape Celia’s relationship with the team and how successful she is at the heists.

The Finnish developers combined multiple choice dialogue sequences with stealth-oriented gameplay set along rather linear isometric pathways.

The game is definitely more narrative-oriented than gameplay oriented. So it’s not like Thief or Hitman, where there’s a sandbox feel to the gameplay. Instead, you’ll move along through the stages with the sort of stifled mechanisms found in most Telltale games.

While the trailer was well received, the actual gameplay isn’t quite as streamlined to be “fun” in the traditional sense, since you’ll spend a lot of time listening to the dialogue and very little time actually playing. You can see what the first episode is like with the gameplay video below from YouTuber The Oldest Noob.

The game reminds me of a cross between Fear Effect and a more linear Hitman.

There’s also a lot of in-game tooltips plastered around the levels to help guide you on where to go and what to do.

Visually, the graphics look very similar to Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

Conceptually it’s a neat mixture of stealth games and comic book narration, but the execution seems to leave something to be desired.

Nevertheless, if you want to learn more or check out the user reviews you can do so by visiting the Steam store page.
