RPG Maker MV Heads To Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One In 2019

NIS America and Kadokawa Corporation announced that the game-creation toolkit known as RPG Maker MV, will be released on home consoles for the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One starting in 2019.

The game-creation suite has been available on PC for a while, and continues to receive frequent tileset updates to give gamers more options and building tools to utilize when making their very own JRPGs.

The RPG Maker MV Player App will also be available for home console owners, and it will be freely distributed allowing you to download and play games made in RPG Maker MV.

For those of you who actually want to build your very own sprite-based JRPG, you can do so with the original toolset, which comes with scripting capabilities, sprite builders, asset makers, and a variety of stock kits available for you to use in order to flesh out your game world and create something nostalgic. Youtuber Echo607 has a fairly in-depth review on the toolkit, which you can check out below.

The highlight of RPG Maker MV is that if you aren’t good at coding you don’t have to rely on building out complicated scripts to make things work. Instead, you can rely on a point-and-click graphical user interface to drag and drop assets into place, or use slider bars and numerical values to create certain events.

For those of you more skilled at making games, there are scripting tools available so you can get slightly more in-depth when it comes to creating the kind of game you want to make.

Once you get done making your game you can actually sell it as a fully fleshed out title or upload it and share it across the RPG Maker MV community for free.

Expect more details to emerge for the toolkit as 2019 draws closer. For now you can keep an eye on the console version of RPG Maker MV by visiting the official website.
