Today’s technology is constantly being updated to become bigger and better each day, so it’s no surprise to hear that 5G is already in the process of presenting itself soon in the mobile space. It seems researchers, businesses and investors are already hard at work making sure the upcoming smart devices will be equipped and ready to handle more speed, better connectivity, and overall bigger and better usability in the coming months.
Techradar recently reported that Motorola has announced its Moto Z3 will upgrade to 5G making it one of the first smartphones with 5G; the carrier will be Verizon. At this time it seems Verizon is testing four service city areas using 5G in the Houston, Los Angeles, Sacramento and the fourth to be announced soon, with that said, look for 5G to come to smartphones in 2019, consumers should expect at least the top 5 smartphone makers to launch 5G enabled flagships before 2019 ends. Apple, Huawei, One Plus, Samsung and Sony, with of course other brand names trailing close behind them or with them. Expect 5G to launch across the world by 2020 alongside 4G as well as some areas still using 3G.
What should consumers expect from 5G? First: 5G should bring faster speeds for all network related activity. Secondly: Better video call quality. Thirdly: UHD and 360-degree video streaming and instant connectivity to the cloud, with average download speeds expected around 1GBps. Fourthly: Faster browsing, And fifthly: 5G Snapdragon X50.
Zdnet.com recently reported that Qualcomm has partnered with Microsoft by providing Snapdragon 850 platform with Windows 10 to create “always connected” gigabit LTE connectivity for now, but the main objective is to also build the foundation and building block as a network preparing for 5G, and consumers should look for future chip on a future 5G with VR, AR, and XR.
Not everyone see 5G as being the next big thing in bigger and faster network service. Bgr.com recently wrote an article explaining how 5G could be a step backwards, the article explain that 5G could require more higher frequency waves, with higher frequency waves it travels less distances and do not penetrate through objects and walls as well, which in turn could call for the return of the antenna. I would like to believe advance engineers have already tackled and conquered this issue (we shall find out soon enough.)
