DayZ Is Now Playable On Xbox One, Launches On PS4 In Q1 2019

The Xbox Game Preview program has welcomed with reluctantly excited arms, DayZ. The game has been in Early Access on Steam since 2013, and five years later – still trapped in development at Bohemia Interactive – the game is now in the Xbox Game Preview category, where it will continue to stay in development, moving at a potential snail’s pace given that both the Xbox One and PC version of the game will be in development simultaneously.

The game is available for download from the Game Preview section for $39.99.

This milestone is supposed to be the next step toward putting DayZ into beta phase, which is expected to take place at some point toward the end of 2018, and then eventually move toward 1.0 where the game will have its full launch during the first quarter of 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

They unleashed a preview trailer to give Xbox One owners a brief look at how the game plays, which you can check out below.

The machinima style launch trailer isn’t all that bad. The physically based rendering, and lighting also get played up in a big way in the trailer.

We get a look at the desolate city known as Chernarus, which has become a post-apocalyptic zombie paradise… or a barren wasteland with a few straggling undead you’ll encounter here and there.

The trailer is surprisingly light on the zombies. Then again, the PC alpha is surprisingly light on the zombies, too.

The alpha version on the Xbox One will support up to 60 players per server, which is about 10 more than what the modded alpha version sported when it was still attached to Arma 2. The survival aspects are still there, with hunger, thirst, disease, and infection still playing a big role in how you attempt to make your way through large, open sandbox.

You can pick up a digital copy right now from the Xbox Store, or hang back and wait to see if DayZ eventually enters beta testing.
