Star Control: Origins Will Be Playable At PAX West; Will Support Vulkan API

Stardock Entertainment announced that Star Control: Origins will be playable for the first time in public at PAX West in Seattle, Washington. Over the weekend gamers will be able to get their first hands-on experience with the space sim ahead of its September 20th, 2018 launch.

Over on the Stardock website they revealed that the game will not only be playable in public at PAX West, it will also be optimized for AMD GPUs.

This includes ensuring that the game runs in pristine form on the AMD Ryzen, and can make full use of the Radeon FreeSync 2 tech. What’s more is that they announced that Star Control: Origins will have full Vulkan API support for those who want performance as close to the metal as possible. But if you’re not into Vulkan, there’s still support for the DirectX 12.

There’s also the added benefit of receiving a free copy of Star Control: Origins when you purchase an AMD Radeon RX Vega, Radeon RX 580, or a Radeon RX 570 GPU from qualifying retailers. With the game’s focus on being optimized for AMD cards, it means all of the effects, all of the ships, all of the characters, and all of the planets will look as rich and as crisp as the cards will allow.

This means that as you’re playing through the game in UHD, listening to Adam Baldwin voice a character in Star Control: Origins at 120fps, you can take refuge in knowing that somewhere, far away in a distant land, someone with a blue checkmark, purple hair, and problem glasses is rheeeing fitfully into the night, and all will be right in the world.

As mentioned, Star Control: Origins is due for release next month on September 20th. You can pre-order the game right now or wait for it to release to pick up a copy for $34.99.
