The Videokid Challenges Goes Console This Month. Also, Free Copies

The last time I went skateboarding was with Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 on the Game Boy Advance and although I’ve never been a fan of the sport nor have possessed any capability in that regard, I enjoyed the game for the fun it was.

The Videokid seems very reminiscent of that fun and although I missed the original PC release of January, last year, Ethan must at least remember it from its Steam Greenlight days. Greenlit in 13, the game’s since done well for itself insofar as most Steam reviews are concerned.

Which shouldn’t be unexpected from a crowd looking for a light-hearted, endless-running arcade stint. Jessica’s called with plans to hook up at the park and you, Videokid, have but your trusty skateboard to get you there and not very many dollars for a date.

Yet you’ve decided to sell a few VHS tapes on the way by dodging traffic, cops and the possibility of having to start the entire level over should you miscalculate. For extra cents you might even attempt to string together a few killer combos or better yet, target NPC’s and/or specific objects such as mailboxes to boost rewards.

These will further yield new outfits for yourself and powerups for the board, no doubt conducive to your date, and it’s all set in a voxelated 1980’s world choc-a-block with pop culture references from the era.

So much so in fact, that these character/vehicle/movie/TV/cartoon references are what seem to highlight The Videokid experience, getting more epic the further you get in-game. And now that all this is heading to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles on the 31st of August, PixelTrip Studios intends to giveaway FIVE copies on launch day.

No details of the giveaway have been announced yet although signing up to either of the game’s Facebook or Twitter pages would bode well.
