Tokyo Dark -Remembrance-, Anime-Horror Game Coming To Nintendo Switch, PS4 This Winter

The sanity-warping, anime-themed horror game, Tokyo Dark -Remembrance-, is set to make the leap from PC to Nintendo Switch and PS4 this winter. The game originally came out on Steam back in September of 2017, giving gamers a very different kind of anime-themed experience compared to the ones usually made available on Valve’s digital distribution outlet.

This game has actually had a long run through the developmental scene leading up to its eventual release on home consoles. It started as a crowdfunded project over on Kickstarter by indie developer CherryMochi way back in 2015. After successfully being funded the game spent another two years in development and eventually released on Steam in 2017.

Cherrymochie teamed up with the Sony publishing label Unties in order to get the game on the Switch and PS4. The updated console version features all new endings, all new NPC interactions, refined graphics.

You can check out the trailer below to see how the game looks running on the home consoles.

Players take on the role of detective Ito, who must explore Tokyo for her missing partner. The game sees Ito interacting with various characters and making life-altering decisions along the way that eventually results in reaching one of the 10 different endings. Additionally, once you beat the game it unlocks a New Game+ that has an exclusive new ending for players to unravel.

Throughout the journey you’ll encounter various animated sequences produced by Graphinica to help flesh out the story, and indulge in a soundtrack composed by Reign of Fury’s Matt ‘Bison’ Steed.

Very similar to the original Fear Effect, there’s also a S.P.I.N., system that measures Ito’s sanity, professionalism, investigation, and neurosis. This keeps track of all of Ito’s decisions and how she reacts to characters and situations, showcasing what sort of path she’s on and where it might lead.

Tokyo Dark Remembrance - Gameplay

The game is a mixed breed of visual novel storytelling, adventure-game puzzle solving, mystery-game intrigue, and topped off with a good dose of horror elements.

We don’t oftentimes get games like this, and I suppose it should come as no surprise that it was an indie title that decided to step outside the box and offer something new and unique for the gaming audience.

There’s no price yet on the Switch and PS4 version of Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- but it’ll likely arrive well ahead of the game’s launch this winter. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
