428: Shibuya Scramble, FMV Mystery Game Launches On Steam, PS4

Spike Chunsoft’s quirky FMV visual novel mystery game, 428: Shibuya Scramble, is finally available on Steam for PC. The multi-character mystery thriller is available for purchase over on the Steam store and the PlayStation Store for PS4 for $49.99.

The game follows multiple characters with different stories that all intertwine at some point. The game is played like a typical visual novel, but with various choices and mini-games sprinkled throughout that change the outcome of events.

The core story centers around a young girl who is kidnapped while walking down the streets of Shibuya. Eventually a hot-headed detective, a journalist, a former gang leader, and a big pharma researcher, along with someone stuck in a cat costume, all find themselves as part of a thrilling conspiracy that unfolds over the course of the day.

You can get an idea of what the characters and story is like with the trailer below.

It reminds me a little bit of being like a cheaper, lighthearted version of the South Korean flick A Hard Day, where one drastic event led to another that completely unraveled one police officer’s life.

Spike Chunsoft originally announced that 428: Shibuya Scramble would launch on PS4 and PC at the end of the summer. The game is definitely a departure from what most people might have been expecting from the company, but it mixes in still photography with live-actors in segmented FMV sequences.

You can move between each of the five characters as their tale unfolds parallel to one another. This unique system affords the game to have loads of unlockable content, including extra scenarios, bonus modes, and up to 50 total endings to acquire.

The general consensus so far is that 428: Shibuya Scramble is a fun game that mirrors Danganronpa and Zero Escape in its tension and pacing.

You can pick up a digital copy of the game right now for PS4 and PC.
